Garnish the chili with grated cheddar, sour cream, fresh sliced jalapeno, or peppers and serve with tortilla chips or rice. We make chili recipes with our granddaughters in mind, and adults can add any number of spicier condiments on the side. If making chili only for adults, absolutely add ½ tsp. cayenne and ½ tsp. red pepper flakes to start and increase the heat to your personal taste. Beware the wine of choice may change as you add heat!
1– 19 oz.(540 ml) can red or white kidney beans, rinsed and drained
Instructions
Pre heat oven to 300.
Heat oil oil in a Dutch Oven and add ground turkey. Scramble fry breaking up the meat until about 2/3 cooked.
Add chopped onions, celery, garlic, and red peppers. Continue to cook 5 – 7 minutes.
Next add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and spices. Stir and place thyme sprigs on top.
Cook 2 hours, covered in oven. (Stir after 1 hour).
After the chili has cooked 2 hours, rinse and drain beans; then add to chili. Stir beans to incorporate.
Continue to cook for another 30 minutes, uncovered in the oven.
Remove chili from the oven and let rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Without a whole lot of spice, this chili pairs beautifully with Chianti's. The spicier you make the chili think about dry Rieslings or Roses, or it may be time to settle on a beer! We’ve paired:
Castella Di Gabbiano Chiati Classico Reserva
Antinori Peppoli Chianti Classico
Fattoria dei Barbi Chianti
