Russian Dressing
This mayonnaise based dressing got its start in the early 1900’s and its name “Russian” because the original recipe had caviar in it; a Russian staple. However, it was created in New Hampshire.
Russian Dressing
Russian Dressing is similar to Thousand Island Dressing; however, it is more piquant, with the addition of Chili Sauce rather than Ketchup and liberally uses horseradish, hot sauce and Worcestershire.
Ingredients
- ½ TBSP (7 gr) red onion, finely diced
- ½ cup (102 gr) Hellman’s Real Mayonnaise
- 2 TBSP (34 gr) Heinz Chili Sauce
- 1 tsp. prepared Horseradish
- 1 tsp. French’s Gluten Free Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tsp. Frank’s Hot Sauce
- ¼ tsp. paprika
Instructions
- Finely dice onion and mash into pulp with a mortar and pestle.
- Move onion pulp to a small dish and add remaining ingredients. Adjust the heat to your preference by adding less or more horseradish, hot sauce or Worcestershire.
- Will keep in the refrigerator covered for up to 2 days.
Notes
The dressing does have a bit of heat and depending on whether you are using it on a salad or a Reuben, the wine will vary depending on the dressings intensity and application.
