The term Sweet Potatoes and Yams are used interchangeably, but they are different root vegetables. Yams are starchier and lighter in colour.

In our family, yams fall into the cauliflower category – you either love them or you don’t! Sweetened with colorful mini marshmallows a true retro dish with our Turkey.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb yam (454 gr) peeled and cooked
  • 1 TBSP butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • 60 grams colored mini marshmallows

Instructions
 

  • Peel yam and cut into 6 – 8 pieces. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until fork tender, 25 – 30 minutes.
  • Drain and mash with a potato ricer until smooth in texture. Stir in butter and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
  • Layer in small flat dish and cover with an even, single layer of colorful mini marshmallows.
  • Bake in oven at 350 until yams are warm, about 20 minutes.
  • Broil a few minutes if you like the marshmallows to have a bit of golden color…….but do be careful, they will burn in a flash.
