Asian Chicken/Turkey Lettuce Wraps
Lettuce wraps have been around for centuries in Southeast Asia, and more recently became very popular throughout North America. Wraps make a light meal or use them as part of a small plates meal.
Asian Chicken/Turkey Lettuce Wraps
Butter lettuce is our favorite lettuce for these wraps. Sweet and mild, Butter lettuce is sold with the roots still attached to preserve freshness. Quick and delicious, this dish comes together in minutes. Very flavorful and light for a hot day.

Cuisine Asian
Ingredients
- 500 gr lean ground chicken or turkey
- 1 tsp. Sesame oil
- 2 TBSP chives chopped
- ¼ tsp. garlic minced
- ½ cup (75 gr) can sliced water chestnuts, chopped
- 2 TBSP GF San-J Hoisin Sauce
- 2 TBSP GF Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce
- 1 TBSP GF Tamari/Soy Sauce
- 1 tsp. unseasoned rice wine vinegar
- 1 TBSP (15 gr) ginger, grated
- 1 tsp. (2 gr) cornstarch
- 1 tsp. Sriracha
- 6 Basil leaves chopped
- 1 head Butter Lettuce
Instructions
- Remove stem and roots from butter lettuce with a knife and separate leaves.
- Heat sesame oil in skillet and add ground chicken or turkey. When cooked about halfway, add garlic and chives. Continue cooking through and until there is no liquid in the pan.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl add Hoisin, Teriyaki, Tamari, rice vinegar, ginger, Sriracha and cornstarch. Mix to incorporate and add to skillet. Continue to cook on medium/low heat.
- Add chopped water chestnuts and cook until thickened, stirring frequently.
- Add basil leaves. Stir and serve with more Sriracha or Los Tacos Foods Salsa Verde if desired.
Notes
Whether you add extra Sriracha makes a difference in the wine you might enjoy. A California Chardonnay, nice and oaky works very well as does a light bodied red wine, without the extra spice.
A Cabinet Sauvignon and a dry Riesling we both liked when topping the lettuce wrap with a healthy squirt of Sriracha.
We’ve paired very successfully with:
- Chateau de Pierreux Brouilly 2019
- Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2021 ($35.00)
- Trimbach Alsace Riesling 2020
- J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Estates Riverstone Chardonnay 2020 (40.00)
- Michael David Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 (40.00)
