Sloppy Joe’s

Sloppy Joe’s

This is a southwestern take on Sloppy Joe’s, still spicy but not the traditional style.  The girls (grandchildren) prefer less spice, so we make two batches, one for the adults and one for the kids (recipes below).  Invite some friends over and have some fun.

  • 1 TBSP Avocado or Olive oil
  • ¼ cup (30 grams) diced onion
  • 1 cup (120 grams) chopped red pepper
  • 1.1 lb (500 grams) ground turkey or chicken
  • 1 – 6 oz. (156 gram) can Hunt’s Tomato Paste

  • ¼ tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Cilantro and Avocado for garnish
  • *Add ½ cup 80 gr Green Giant Peaches and Cream Niblets if desired.

Instructions

  • This comes together really quickly so chop onion and peppers before starting.
  • Heat oil in skillet. Add meat and scramble fry, breaking up as it cooks, for 3 – 5 minutes. Add onion and bell peppers. Cook for 10 minutes. Add tomato paste, stir to incorporate and add spices. Next add chicken broth, bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium and simmer for 30 minutes uncovered, stirring occasionally.
  • Child Friendly Sloppy Joe’s
  • Make recipe according to above, except for the spices. Add only 1 tsp. salt, 2 tsp. cumin and ½ tsp. paprika. The girls love it!

Notes

We have tried many many reds and recently found  New World Pinot Noir’s are perfect!
Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo did not work.
The dry Riesling definitely did pair beautifully. And beer is always a good choice!

  •  Villa Wolf Dry Riesling

  • Allan Scott Marlborough Black Label Pinot Noir 2022 ($20.00) Wine Spectator 92 Points.
